Supportive Housing Coalition partners with local communities and member agencies to create affordable, supportive housing. FASB has provided clarifying guidance on accounting for the grants and contracts of Not-For-Profit organizations as they relate to the new revenue recognition standard (ASU-2014-09 Revenue from Contracts with Customers). One of the goals of this standard update is to minimize uncertainty on how to classify grants and contracts under current guidance.
Many stakeholders noted difficulty in characterizing grants and similar contracts with resource providers as either exchange transactions or contributions and in determining whether the contributions are conditional.
